After two formative summers performing Shakespeare under the stars, several community theatre explorations of the texts, and three years of bringing Shakespeare education and dramaturgy to Seoul, Korea, I committed to more in-depth study.
I spent three terms in Stratford-upon-Avon while completing coursework for an MA in Shakespeare and Education, and the culminating course was an inspiring week-long intensive with the Royal Shakespeare Company. While completing my thesis I was honored to direct a youth production of Pericles at the American Shakespeare Center summer camp. (For insight into my education philosophy, read my interview with the American Shakespeare Center.) I currently teach with the California Shakespeare Theatre, and act as coordinator for their summer youth conservatory.
Four years as a British literature teacher have given me a solid pedagogical foundation, and my work as a director and performer has built upon that to create classroom experiences that are theatrical rather than academic. I am committed to making Shakespeare accessible, alive, enchanting, and personal.
